Year 2000 Software Audit Version History
Please note that we send out email notices of program upgrades to
registered users who have provided us with valid email addresses.
______________________________________________________________
Version 1.24 (Mar 5 1999)
- Database size: 1,579 files
- Added a “plain tab-delimited” format which does not include report
annotations such as product notes and section summaries. The new
format is for producing reports to import, as tables, into other
applications.
- Removed FileMaker databases and templates from the audit. FileMaker
technical support has informed us that such files will not exhibit
year 2000 problems, although you should of course be careful when
importing data containing two-digit years into FileMaker.
Version 1.23 (Feb 24 1999)
- Database size: 1,567 files
- SITE FEATURE: Multiple clients may run Y2KSA off the same
AppleShare file server.
Version 1.22 (Feb 23 1999)
- Database size: 1,567 files
- Reports may now be saved in HTML format. With the HTML format,
report fields are coloured according to the Y2K category they are in.
- Tab-delimited reports now include column labels.
- Added “Confirm report options before scanning” preference. This
preference may be used to streamline scanning: when unselected,
scanning begins immediately after “Scan” is pressed, rather than
asking the user to confirm the options used for the report.
- Added “Confirm file name before saving” preference. This preference
may be used to streamline scanning: when unselected, the report
is immediately saved after scanning completes, rather than prompting
the user for a file name and location.
- SITE FEATURE: The preference file “Y2K Software Audit Preferences”
may now be stored in the application folder. Previous versions required
the preference file to be stored in the system folder’s preference folder.
Moving the preference file into the application folder allows a site licensee
to use Y2KSA from removable media or a network volume without manually
registering Y2KSA on every machine to be audited.
Version 1.21 (Feb 10 1999)
- Database size: 1,540 files
- Fixed a bug introduced in version 1.20. Version 1.20 could unnecessarily
leave files open, which could cause a variety of problems.
Version 1.20 (Feb 9 1999)
- Database size: 1,540 files
- Previous versions saved reports as SimpleText documents, unless BBEdit
was installed; if BBEdit was installed, reports were saved as BBEdit
documents. With this version, you may choose whether reports are saved
as BBEdit, Internet Explorer, MPW, Navigator, SimpleText, or Word
documents.
- The licensee name is now included in reports.
Version 1.19 (Jan 22 1999)
- Database size: 1,529 files
Version 1.18 (Dec 21 1998)
- Database size: 1,494 files
Version 1.17 (Dec 16 1998)
- Database size: 1,425 files
- Added a progress bar that indicates overall progress when scanning
entire volumes (either all volumes, or a specific volume) but not when
scanning one specific folder.
- Added code to watch for low-memory conditions and exit gracefully,
rather than crash.
Version 1.16 (Dec 14 1998)
- Database size: 1,237 files
Version 1.15 (Nov 29 1998)
- Database size: 1,148 files
- Added an “Installers and Updaters” section and classification.
Version 1.14 (Nov 18 1998)
- Database size: 1,090 files
- Added a “Has Minor Y2K Issues” classification. This classification
is used if the file is essentially ready for year 2000, but has some
minor “issues” the user should be aware of. Typically these issues
(or a link to a web page of issues) will be included in the report notes.
- Added an optional “Y2K classification” field to the records. If the
field is included, each classification is not seperated by a header.
Using this field with the tab-delimited report will ease importing
into a spreadsheet or database.
Version 1.13 (Nov 10 1998)
- Database size: 936 files
- All mounted volumes (all hard disks, CDs, floppies, ... that are on
the desktop) are now scanned by default. The default for earlier
versions was to scan the one volume the program was launched from.
- Reports will now include a warning if a volume becomes unavailable
while it is being scanned.
Version 1.12 (Nov 7 1998)
- Database size: 899 files
- Navigation Services is now supported. Navigation Services provide,
among other things, improved “Choose Location” and “Save” dialog
boxes. Navigation Services is included with MacOS 8.5; it may
be installed on older systems (back to MacOS 7.5.5) if you are willing
to do it yourself - go to the Apple web site and search for “Navigation
Services” for more information. If Navigation Services is not installed,
the older, standard dialog boxes are used.
Version 1.11 (Nov 3 1998)
- Database size: 899 files
Version 1.10 (Oct 27 1998)
- Database size: 841 files
Version 1.09 (Oct 20 1998)
- Database size: 765 files
Version 1.08 (Oct 14 1998)
- Database size: 717 files
- Added a new “Uncertain” category to the report. It is used
when it isn’t known whether a file is or is not year 2000
ready, even though it is recognized and in the database.
This commonly occurs when a producer will only verify
certain versions of an application.
Version 1.07 (Oct 5 1998)
- Database size: 653 files
- Audit now includes desk accessories, FileMaker plug-ins,
and REALbasic plug-ins.
Version 1.06 (Oct 1 1998)
- Database size: 517 files
- Audit now includes background applications, control strip
modules, contextual menu items, FileMaker databases and
templates, and Photoshop plug-ins.
Version 1.05 (Sept 26 1998)
- Database size: 406 files
- File size now includes the size of the resource fork.
Version 1.04 (Sept 19 1998)
- Database size: 378 files
- Reports now include a notes section which includes Y2K notes
from file producers.
Version 1.03 (Sept 14 1998)
- Database size: 338 files
- Three report formats are now available: record (shows all
fields for each record), compact record (omits blank fields),
and tab-delimited (one record per line, with tabs seperating
fields).
- You may now choose which fields to include in a report.
Version 1.02 (Sept 3 1998)
- Database size: 331 files
- Switched to a new report format that seperates applications and
control panels from supporting files (extensions, libraries, and
drivers).
Version 1.01 (August 24 1998)
- Database size: 331 files
- Fixed a bug that could cause a crash just after saving a report.
Version 1.00 (August 23 1998)
- Database size: 278 files
